Four Odessa College extension courses join 25 offerings in five area cities for the spring term. In Andrews English 132 with Ned Pilcher runs 7 to 10 p.m. Mondays in Room 27 of the old Junior High. Government 232 meets same time Tuesday in the same room. Law enforcement 232 and Sociology 231 meet 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays in the basement courthouse and Room 27 of the Junior High, respectively. Students enroll through January 31.
About 200 people will be honored at the City of Andrews Recognition Dinner at 7 p.m. in the new civic center on Thursday. Guests include Andrews Volunteer Fire Department members, city employees, council members, and other volunteer commissions. Service awards will be presented and the meal will be prepared by the Andrews Mequire Burners.
The Adult Continuing Education Program at Andrews High School offers a grocery checking course. A minimum of ten students must enroll and those completing the course will be certified grocery checkers skilled in customer relations. The sessions run February 10 11 13 17 18 20. contact 523-3640 Ext. 243.
The final week of the January term opens Tuesday with a panel of 56 petit jurors called for four civil trials. The list includes Mrs. Charlie W. Burkett, Don Ingram, Eliaser P. Acosta, Mrs. George R. McFall and many others.
The Mustangs defeated Monahans 59 to 51 as nine players scored with Doug Shumaker on 19 points and Tim Medford 18. The Hosses led all game, 16-6, 27-16 at halftime, 44-32 after three, and finished 12-15 on the season. Second district round begins Tuesday versus Pecos. JV won 68-63.
About 40 Andrews residents formed the Andrews County Junior Livestock Show Association with C W Vincent elected president and Troy Castlemen named secretary treasurer. Membership costs five dollars for 1975 and supports show equipment and prizes. A joint 4H and FFA stock show is planned for February 21–22 with a barbecue fundraiser on the new civic center site.
Louis Robertson, an Andrews art teacher and Boy Scout leader, is among five men and two women honored at the Buffalo Trail Council 51st Recognition Banquet at Howard County Junior College in Big Spring. He began Scouting in Dallas in 1958 and has held multiple roles including Lodge Advisor for Tatanka Lodge and Jam boree Leader.
Final plans announce an open house at Andrews Middle School on February 2 from 3 to 5 pm. The event showcases the new facility and a modern teaching concept emphasizing individual, self paced learning with tours of closed circuit TV, learning resources, wireless headphones, a snack bar, and the science lecture lab designed by Mark Wallace. Forest Scott leads the ultra modern staff as former board members Sonny Tom and Cecil Gerber attend.
