Sinclair Oil and Gas announces a major production office project in Andrews and Monahans to tighten West Texas operations. The Odessa district office will close, with 28 employees affected, and production activities moved to Cochran Hockley Yoakum Terry Gaines Andrews and Ector counties in the new offices.
Norman Smith sank two free throws with 15 seconds left to lift the Lobos 54 53 over the defending champions Andrews Mustangs. David Boren led the Mustangs with 20 points as foul trouble and late rallying defense framed a tense season opener.
Funeral services for Vergil Henry Brooks age 54 were held at 10 am Saturday at the Church of Christ with Doyle Keley minister officiating. Interment followed at then Drews Cemetery under Singleton Funeral Home direction. Brooks born in Turner ville Texas later moved to Andrews 23 years ago and worked at the Post Office barber shop 11 years and part time since July after a heart attack.
Students will see the Mighty Mustangs concert band in an 11 30 assembly on Wednesday. The program features soloists and sections with pieces like Si Trocadero mambo and Holidays for Trombones. John Bacon performs a cornet solo in Stormy Weather with a storm effect.
Andrews hosts the ABC sanctioned invitational with 20 five man teams 46 singles and doubles events and 73 all events entries. The event is 76 percent handicapped with prize money for top placements across team all events singles and doubles. The tournament began Saturday and ends Sunday night January 24.
Pan American Petroleum reports a drillstem test in the Ellenburger section from 10,920 to 10,970 feet flowed oil heavily with gas surfaced upon tool opening. Oil reached the surface in 22 minutes and 150 barrels of oil flowed in the last two hours eight minutes, with gas at 44 000 cubic feet per day. Reversed out 85 barrels, no water found, flowing pressure 3230 to 3870 pounds, shut in 3910 pounds. Location in University Lands survey near Andrews shows nearby Ellenburger production in Fullerton pool and additional tests in Devonian and Waddell intervals. Continuous tests ongoing for Honolulu Oil No. 11 C J E Parker near Central Andrews County.
M W Mayfield declares his bid for precinct three commissioner in Andrews county. He highlights 15 years in Andrews as an oil field worker, 13 years as a precinct three taxpayer, and his family affiliations with First Baptist church. He pledges to address county school and city problems and plans to meet every voter before the election.
Night time burglars entered Turner's Shoe Store at 116 Northwest 1st through a locked back door after midnight and stole $610 in cash from a locked register. A $56 in silver was left behind, and the robbery was found Saturday morning as officers investigate.
The Andrews Savings and Loan Association held its second annual stockholders meeting with a social hour for attendees. Officers and directors were re elected including C E Carruth and James Ulmer. The annual report showed eleven months of gains with assets near $1 0 million, savings of $627 244 27 and loans of $692 010 03.
Funeral services were held January 11 in Lima Ohio for C W Stinebuck 6 father of Mrs D L Dorland Big Spring Highway and A V T Stinebuck 1115 Southwest 4th St Stinebuck who wed a daughter in Lima. He had been ill a long time. Mr and Mrs Dorland Linda and Mr and Mrs Stinebuck attended. Mrs Dorland had been in Lima with her father before his death.
