Albert Lowrey McCarley known as Al in Andrews for over fifty years died at 11 45 a m Sunday Jan 5 at 405 NW Ave A after months of illness He was 84 born March 12 1890 in McClarty Ala moved to Waxa hachie Colorado City and Andrews marrying Lila Sanders Dec 27 1914 The McCarleys helped found the McCarley Settlement seven miles southeast of Andrews They raised the only milk cow Two-Spot used by neighbors He was a Past Worshipful Master of Andrews Lodge 1024 Life member of the Masons and a longtime First Baptist Church member He was named Father of the Year June 20 1971 in Andrews The funeral was 3 p m Monday at First Baptist Church Rev Carl Grissom officiating Burial in Andrews Cemetery Funeral Home handled arrangements He survived by one son A W of Austin five daughters Connie Underwood Ruby Lasater Grace Dowlen Louise Irwin Ala Dement of Pasadena nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren Pallbearers listed
The Andrews County pecan was chosen as the county tree in a Chamber of Commerce Arbor Day plan. Orders for pecan trees will be taken ahead of the plant day to meet a 500-tree goal, with tips from local agents on planting depth, soil, watering, and maintenance.
