Births In January A Newborns For Mrs Jean Elliot

Mrs Jean Elliot welcomed a son on January 3 weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces and as yet unnamed. Mr and Mrs Joe Gregg reported a son Joenathan Jr born December 31 weighing eight pounds.

Funeral services held Thursday for F. E. Price

Funeral services for 78 year old F. E. Price, Andrews County pioneer, were conducted at Means Memorial Methodist Church with Rev. Loyd Mayhew officiating. Price died of a heart attack January 6 after months of ill health. he moved to Andrews County in 1930 from Cisco. He married Grace R. Chalker and had 11 children, 10 surviving, plus 20 grandchildren. He was active in church, civic and school matters. interment followed in Andrews cemetery with Pallbearers named.

Hood resigns as cashier of Andrews First State Bank

A. L. Hood, cashier since the bank’s organization on November 12, 1948, resigns to become cashier at Crane First State Bank. Under Hood deposits rose from about 100 000 at opening to 1 615 111.79 by December 31 1948, with a 26 percent stock dividend anticipated. Hood will assume active management at Crane once the bank opens.

Wink Seminole Set For Big Week Against Andrews Mustangs

Wink and Seminole meet Andrews Mustangs this week with Wink at home tonight and Seminole Friday. Wink features a 6 foot 8 inch center and has averaged 20 points per game. Seminole has beaten Hobbs Denver City Brownfield and lost once to Tohoka. Mustangs at full strength, Coach Payne says, will give the visitors a battle.

Merchants Rally For First 1948 Andrews Baby Alice Odell

Three siblings welcomed Andrews first 1948 baby Alice Odell born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Campbell who have lived in Andrews since October. Dr C Stevens delivered the ten pound girl at 6 pm New Year day. Merchants delivered gifts and congratulations, with the Andrews County News sponsoring the donor drive amid the family’s hardships.

Cascade Petroleum Company No 1-A in University South Central Andrews County 13 miles south of Andrews and 440 feet from south and east lines of section 33 block 1 was plugged and abandoned at 5200 feet in San Andres Pernian lime with no petroleum show and a drillstem test of 4234 74 feet yielding 2540 feet of sulphur water. The Andrews County chapter of the American Red Cross organized for fiscal year 1948 at a recent meeting. Andrews County Considers 950000 Road Bond Election

Petition drives for a February election to authorize 950000 road bonds for 71 miles of paving plus surfacing. If approved, tax levy would extend 15 years at under 3 percent interest, adding to county debt from 875000 last year to 1825000 with total tax rate near 2.44 in 1948.

Former Pastor's Wife Dies in New Mexico

Mrs. M. M. Young, 67, wife of Rev. M. M. Young former minister of the Church of Christ of Andrews, died suddenly of a heart attack New Year's Day at her Clayton New Mexico home. Funeral services were held Saturday in Spur with local friends Carl Sealey J H Mabry Jim C McAuley and Joy and A L Rhodes Lawrence attending.

Scouts To Hold Court of Honor in High School Auditorium

The Andrews Boy Scout Troop will present a court of honor January 15 at 7 30 p m in the High School Auditorium. R S Dillard announces. S G Painter from Odessa will show Buffalo Scout Ranch slides. Eight second class scouts receive awards. Tenderfoot investitures and 16 merit badges will be earned. Local families visit over weekend including the Grants and Reeves family.

Airport Granted Additional Aid

The Andrews County Airport received an extra grant of 4000 dollars. Judge Ramsey announced the contract for hard surfacing three runways has been let and work will begin by spring.

Betenbough seeks re election as Precinct 1 County Commissioner

Carl Betenbough announces his candidacy for re election to the office of County Commissioner of Precinct 1 subject to the Democratic Primary on July 24. He cites two terms of experience and commitment to a better community and thanks precinct voters for past support.
