Chamber Units Set Meetings

School Seeks Golf Course Repair Plan Study
A four member committee was appointed by County Judge Roy Bennett and Andrews County Club president L. 2. Brown at the courthouse on Tuesday to study alternate concrete proposals for operating the local golf course. The county now maintains the course but high maintenance costs drive seeking a new arrangement. attendees included commissioners and club officials.

City Council Closes Alley and Approves Plumbing Work
The council voted to close the east west alley between 600 blocks N W 4th and 5th with the existing north south alley in place. The Jaycees plan to pursue a Midway Point highway sign project with Fred Huey Gary ORear and Bob Anderson to present to their board.

Memorial for Rufus Garland Andrews 18
Funeral services were held for Rufus Garland Sonny Andrews 18 at Southwest Butane Church of Christ with H L Matheny officiating. He died Monday when a 18 foot pipe joint fell from a trailer during unloading near the Pure Oil plant north of Dollarhide. Justice of the Peace Owen Doggett ruled the death accidental. He was a Knox City native who moved to Andrews in 1959 and was an Andrews High School 1962 honor graduate. Survivors include his parents, a maternal grandfather, three sisters, and numerous relatives.

Harry Devlin of Odessa was elected chairman of the Tri-County Group Foster Home at a stockholders meeting in Odessa. New board members include Guy McGill, Mrs. R. R. Ramsey, and Mrs. Quida Carruth, joining holdovers James Roberts, Harold Cox, Mrs. L. Z. Brown, and Frank Stickney. The seven representatives from Andrews, Ector, and Midland counties oversee the home for dependent children. The meeting noted a move from a $150 monthly deficit to a self sustaining operation and reported 18 children currently in the home, four infants.

Roof Crack Repair Order At New High School
The school board ordered immediate repair of cracks in the roof area above two beams after Frank Hyde's report. Telegrams were sent to contractor Warner Construction and architects for fixes using expansion mounds to allow contraction and expansion. Bill Holcomb of Branch Roofing was to propose a solution. The board also discussed hiring an engineering firm to assess old campus buildings.

Summer session begins June 3 and ends July 19 at the high school. All students including rising freshmen may enroll for extra work or make up courses. Math and English classes available, plus choir typing homemaking and driver education. Driver training offered in two sessions with tuition of 15 dollars per half unit. Applications accepted in April.
