Fritz Cummins 65 died in a head on collision Tuesday near Gatesville where he had lived recently. He worked for Carter Moore and Gene Irwin in Andrews County. Survivors include sister Mrs. T. L. Huddleston of Andrews. Funeral services expected in San Saba, where he was raised. He was 65 on February 13.
Over 48 hours seven fires kept Eunice area firefighters busy. A trailer house blaze behind a bowling alley caused minor damage, plus grass and fence fires at multiple locations. The Herman Turnbow residence on NE Ave E suffered two fires, starting in the yard then the wall. No serious fires occurred, residents warned to avoid yard burning as dry conditions persist.
Coach Hollis Gainey listed entrants for the Comanche Relays at Fort Stockton. Marc McQueen 21 month old son of Mr and Mrs Roy McQueen of Seminole formerly Andrews was removed from intensive care at Parkland Hospital Dallas after his heart stopped. He remains hospitalized and undergoing tests following an emergency flight Wednesday night carried out by Ira Lee Brannan and Frank Stickney.
Andrews retailers met for a breakfast session to set holidays for the coming year and plan a Fair Trade Fair. Clar ence Parker and Jerrold Hotchkin were named co chairmen, with May 29 July 4 September 4 November 23 December 25 and January 1 chosen as holidays.

Leroy Felder presented plaques to County Judge Roy Bennett and commissioners Joe Allbright Jay Moxley Wes Barnes and Gene Irwin for aiding youth. Hooper installed new officers Jim Clack president Marlon Summitt VP Jerry Hotchkin secretary Lloyd Stoebner treasurer. outgoing officers received gifts.
Gary Henderson surrendered to the Andrews County sheriff with his attorney after being indicted last fall on sale of a dangerous drug and possession. District Judge Russell Austin lowered bonds from 10 000 and 3 000 to 3 500 and 1 500, totaling 5 000, and Henderson was released. His brother was arrested last fall, but Gary had not returned to Andrews until Tuesday.
Tommy Watkins introduces Jerry McWilliams as new assistant coach in Andrews High School. McWilliams, formerly line coach at Iowa Park, will arrive March 1 to replace Bill Bundy who leaves with Coach Keeling to Colorado in Lubbock.
Lana Fitts captured first place in poetry interpretation at the Kermit Invitational speech tournament last weekend. The Andrews County News had incorrectly listed her as a third place finisher. The senior student is consistently among top winners in high school speech events.
