Over the weekend four traffic incidents in town included one injury early Monday. Mrs Vaudene Byers Ashby was driving when her vehicle struck two parked cars on NE 5th Street. She was taken to Permian General Hospital. Investigators say the case remains under review. A separate Saturday hit and run at NE 4th and Avenue B injured Lenora Trevina whose car was struck by an unknown vehicle. Police continue an ongoing inquiry into recent wrecks including a collision at North Main and Avenue last week. No citations were issued in the later incident.
Sammie Huntley eight year old son of Mr and Mrs Edward Fr Watkins of Hog North was hospitalized around noon Saturday after receiving burns from an improvised homemade bomb. His seven year old brother Frank and Ronald Jackson, also seven, helped assemble the device from gasoline behind a garage. Sammie threw himself down to shield his eyes, suffering second degree burns to the upper lip eyebrow forehead and a finger. He was expected to be released from Permian General Hospital Wednesday.
Elam, a speech student, won first place in the informative division at the Kermit Speech tournament over the weekend. Cheryl Shabutt placed third in the same event for girls. Three students from Andrews attended, with about 28 more expected to compete in Son Vid this weekend, per Jul Hogue.
The county commissioners hired J. G. Burnett as truck driver for Precinct 1 at 410 dollars monthly and Wayne Davis as laborer at 15 dollars daily or from Road and Bridge Fund, effective February 18. They also authorized Pan American Petroleum to cross a county road 2200 feet west of the intersection of Sections 32 22-40 and 25 in Block H TU GMMB&A Survey.

Myra Pierce and Diane Thompson, about 15, were hospitalized Saturday after a barking dog caused a horse to rear and throw them off. They were riding bareback and kept at the hospital for observation.
Ernest Wooford and Donald French, both from Odessa, pleaded guilty to mercury theft in county court. They were fined $100 plus costs and sentenced to six months in jail by County Judge Roy Bennett. Bob Chase remains at large on bond.
Curtis Warnick 14 died from injuries after a one vehicle rollover on Highway 385 nine miles north of Odessa. The pickup drifted 600 feet out of control, struck a roadside post, and overturned twice before stopping on the highway shoulder. Two other youths, 13 and 15, were hospitalized with abrasions and released.
Henry Jutson Line 76 died at 10 20 p m Saturday at Andrews Hospital He was born December 5 1889 in Mount Vernon Maryland and had lived in Andrews 12 years He owned and managed the Snyder Hotel Funeral services were held at Carmichael Whatley Chapel in Pampa at 2 p m Tuesday He lay in state at Singleton's Funeral Home Survivors include a daughter Mrs Fred Brook of Pampa two sons J Edward Line of Hereford and Joseph C Line of Albuquerque NM one brother L D Line of Banner Oklahoma and three grandchildren.
Mrs G W Brannon nearly received a direct Viet Nam call when Wayne Newton, touring to entertain troops, phoned from Boston to say he met her son Jerry and would call again once back in the states.
James Foster joined the race for the school board filing for place 7 now held by W C Melton. He is the third candidate, with Melton seeking re election and Wayne Baker also running for the spot. Jim Brown also seeks re election against Dan Sullivan.
