Five Car Collisions Plague Icy Streets After Snow
Police say five crashes occurred over 18 hours as light snow and slick streets reduced visibility. No injuries reported though vehicle damage exceeded $1,000. Incidents included a rear end at West Broadway and NW 1st injuring none, a school bus rear ending a car at NW 13th and Avenue F, and a 9 am crash at North Main and Avenue G with multiple citations issued.

The Gene Irwin ranch home near Seminole will be open from 1 to 5 p m today to display a remodeled project aimed at improving older homes. The four bedroom two bath residence now includes a living room kitchen dining room basement utility room and covered drive with guidance from Denton College Station and the Texas Agricultural Extension Service. Refreshments will be served and the event highlights budgeting for Andrews County residents with future landscaping planned.

Boy Seriously Injured As Car Backs Over Him
A three year old, Jerry Faron Criner, suffered two broken collar bones and rib fractures when his mother's car backed over him at her home. He was listed in critical condition at Permian General Hospital after being taken from Andrews Hospital, Inc. by ambulance to receive further care. The accident happened as the mother backed out of a driveway, trapping the boy under a back wheel. she attempted to free him and shielded him when the vehicle rolled backward.

Andrews Junior High Band Festival draws bands from ten cities
More than 850 out of town band students from ten area cities will compete at the first annual Andrews Junior High School Band Festival. Directors Bill Green and Dan Lancaster will lead events with sponsorship from the Mustang Band and Andrews Chamber of Commerce. The competition runs 9 30 a m to 4 p m with two classes Class C for seventh and eighth grades and Class CCC through ninth grade. Trophies include an Outstanding Band award for top overall in both concert and sight reading.

The Andrews High School stage band won the Outstanding Band award at the Odessa College festival. The sixteen member group directed by Bill Green and Dan Lancaster earned first division rating. Contest featured three pieces including Two for One Latin Latin and Half Moon Street with judges Tim Dennis and Richard Cox.

Williams Named To All District in District 2 AAA
Randy Williams a six foot six Mustang star won All District honors Friday when District 2 AAA coaches met in Kermit to elect top players in the conference. Williams was named to the first team by seven coaches. Williams posted 393 points this season and the Mustangs topped Ector Tuesday night. Other honorees included Hawthorne Gonzales Lumpkin Galloway Sample on first team with Rice Brooks Davenport Jackson Homes on second team and Turk Hater on honorable mention. Gordon Madison was named Coach of the Year and Joe Young attended as athletic committee chair.

A noon Thursday fire of unknown origin destroyed clothing linens and kitchen appliances in a pickup bed at 702 SW 3rd Andrews. Mr and Mrs Morgan James had just arrived to Andrews and were visiting his parents when neighbors spotted the blaze. the pickup was unscathed and loss valued at 300 dollars.
