A Dallas trip for a Permian Basin Railroad appointment turns windy. A topcoat becomes burdensome in mild weather, then a jet encounter a snowstorm with zero visibility on landing. The account mocks forecasts and mocks the weatherman while noting the coat proved valuable.
Two more candidates filed in the city race with one running in two spots and two seeking a third post. Louis Miller filed for Place One now held by Doug Gilliland while Clarence Parker seeks re election for the unexpired term from Jim Dotson. Hunter Hawkins and Jack Cassingham filed for Place 5, Harold Cox’s seat, who will not seek re election. Filing deadlines are in March at city hall with city secretary Marcella Cure. Dan Sullivan filed for re election to Place 2 on the school board. deadline is March 4 in the office of Assistant Superintendent Lowell McGee.
Wm Bert Smith 55, Mawson and Smith Insurance owner and WWII veteran, seeks Democratic nomination for Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Place 2 in Andrews, urging voters to read Section 18 Article 5 of the Texas Constitution. He cites a constitutional requirement and notes no photo due to neck surgery.
A minister posed a question on a plane about who is more satisfied a man with a million dollars or a man with six children. He answered that the six‑child man is more satisfied, noting the dollar man usually wants more.
The column cites Cong George Mahon on the House floor noting the President’s call for total mobilization of national resources. He supports spending to fight pollution and mentions calls to fund education poverty relief housing mass transit space welfare and revenue sharing among other programs.
Don Towery is named crusade chairman for the Andrews County Unit of the American Cancer Society. The April fund drive will have Mrs Towery as house to house chairman with Mrs Howard Pella assisting. The group met with 18 attendees and screened the film Check ups for Life presented by Billy Cox.
Two groups of teachers from Andrews attended state conferences last week. In Dallas the Texas Music Educators meeting drew Tom Adams Gary Ivy Ima Kellum Caro lyn Smith and Joyce Nix. In Austin the statewide social studies conference included Nell Bowe and Ginny Gantt.
Lloyd Morgan and his son Mark returned from a three week camera safari in Africa with Porter Randell and 16 other Americans visiting Uganda Kenya and Tanzania. They saw thousands of animals including lions and elephants plus modern hotels and pygmy tribes. They described contrasts between huts and Hilton Nairobi and shared souvenirs such as ebony carvings and a pygmy bow.
Old Man Winter unleashed a sharp drop in Andrews with a Wednesday high near 75 dropping to 38 by Friday morning. Snow flurries fell around noon and, though not sticking by dusk, were expected to accumulate if temperatures dipped below 31 later.

Elizabeth Stansberry, 10, was brought home Saturday to convalesce after 29 days at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa following injuries from being run over by a car on January 16. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Stansberry and was treated at the Odessa hospital.

First Baptist Church Andrews youth choir directed by Jess Barrera will join more than 10 000 musicians at the Festival of Praise on March 6 at the Tarrant County Convention Center Fort Worth. Theme is His Truth is Marching On and Texas Governor Preston Smith has issued a proclamation. Robert Hale and Dean Wilder of New York City Opera will perform, having appeared previously before a record 13 224 at the Evangelism Conference.
