Playoff Meeting Slated as Andrews Dominates District Final
On the eve of the playoffs the Andreans Mustangs beat Pecos 70 59 to close the regular season and set up a Sunday meeting with Canyon Brownwood and Coleman to decide the playoff format. Coleman beat Brownwood 70 69 in overtime as Andrews built a 11 1 district record and a 27 3 overall mark. High scorers were Hiram Hubert 21 for Andrews and Jim Strother 16 for Pecos. The B game saw Pecos rally late but fall behind as the Ponies led 37 24 at the half.

One Injured In Accident At Red Light
Lawrence R. Braswell was hospitalized after a two vehicle collision at North Main and Avenue G. His car struck Earl Dawes’s car and horse trailer, pulling the trailer with two horses 37 feet. Braswell sustained the only injury. Dawes’s damage totaled 450 dollars. Patrolman Jim Adams investigates. no charges filed yet.

Zona Griffin Dies at 93 in Andrews Hospital
Mrs Zona Amanda Griffin 93 died at 12 a m Thursday in Andrews Hospital after a 17 day stay. Funeral services were held in De Leon with Higginbotham Funeral Home in charge and Singleton Funeral Home assisting. She had lived with her daughter Mrs W E Munn at 1109 Golf Course Road for six months. Survived by daughter Mrs J H Adams of De Leon two sons A C McAdams of Chandler Arizona and J R Griffin of Carbon Texas one sister Mrs A C Kitts of San Point Idaho one brother R L Jordan McAllister of Oklahoma 16 grandchildren 33 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

Former resident in critical condition after gunshot wound
Morton Basil Edwards, former Union Oil pump er, was found by his wife with a gunshot wound to the head in his Andrews home last Sunday. He was treated in Lubbock and moved to Oklahoma City in critical condition. friends later reported he had regained consciousness and was improved after brain surgery.

Christmas Letters Honor Captain Killed in Action
Andrews High School students shared Christmas cards with soldiers in Vietnam and received a moving reply from Captain Foy M. Mathis, a 1958 Texas A&M graduate and former Andrews resident. His wife later learned he was killed in action on January 29, and the school newspaper honored him with a page and an open letter to Mrs Mathis. The prom and banquet proceeded as students reflected on his sacrifice.
