Citizens in the district are urged to study the yearly county report detailing the 1961 tax money expenditures compiled by Auditor H. J. Wilson and staff. The piece notes reader effort and citizen interest in transparency and local government accounting.
The Ector Eagles routed the Andrews Mustangs 62 to 4 in Ector Gym on Thursday night. The victory creates a first place tie with Seminole as the Indians crushed Brown in their matchup.
A meeting to organize a Junior Rifle Club for boys and girls ages 12 to 16 is set for 7 p m Monday in the Glorieta Cafeteria with supervision by the Andrews Rifle Club and NRA affiliation. In basketball action the Mustangs forfeited two games for an ineligible player while Ector edged Mustang 62 58 as Gerald Henry led with 19 and George Sanders scored 16 for a season total of 232 points.
The Mighty Mustang Concert Band led by Martin Epps presents its annual Winter Concert Friday at 8 p m in the new high school home area with 122 players. Admission is 50 cents as the group showcases operatic Wagner, modern Latin rhythms, folk tunes and film themes. Seventeen flutists perform Osterling’s Beguine for Flutes and solo trumpeter Lewis Phelps will play Come Back to Sorrento. The concert opens a busy season including a March 10 Invitational Festival in Samesa and a March 24 Interscholastic Solo Ensemble in Odessa.
Costs for the May 5 Democratic Primary and a possible June run-off were set last week with candidates in various offices charged shares. County commissioner race district four had eight candidates at 71.43 each. County treasurer had three men and three women at 83.33 each. Incumbent positions and unopposed candidates faced full or shared fees, including Sam M. Smith paying 600 as district clerk unaided.
Nine year old Dan Medford won the News Ad Rime contest with the entry Introduce yourself by name Local salesmen will do the same. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Fred Medford of 406 N W 131i. The winning slogan appeared with the line Make Business more enjoyable follows cultivating better acquaintances.
Boundaries dividing the town for two Little Leagues were revised at a joint meeting of the American and National League. The line moved to Northwest and Southwest 5th Streets with west side boys entering American League and east side National League. Andrews' Negro boys split by Northeast 4th Place. Highway 385 to divide rural population as schedules align with the National Little League tournament.
About 100 junior high students compete in staged eliminations to select reps for the regional spelling bee in Lubbock on April 7. Feb 27 28 narrow to 10 in seventh and eighth grades, March 6 7 cut to five per grade, March 20 crowns the champion from 10 finalists.

About 300 scouts from 25 West Texas cities and six Buffalo Trail Council chapters attended the Order of the Arrow Banquet in Glorieta Cafeteria. Carl Corbin received a chief headdress. Pat Fariss and John Underwood of Andrews earned special service beads. four out of town leaders and four scout executives were lauded.

ANUrewSs Ugil DCitVUL SCi ence Club sponsored a science congress drawing about 140 students and sponsors from a dozen West Texas schools. The event at Andrews MPI School included science papers, lunch, and talks by visiting scientists Dr. B. H. Warnock, Dr. Paul Sanders, and Wallace Whittington. Lois McCoy of San Angelo Central High School won the biology paper on the Period of DivA Synthesis with Sandy Sindel of Midland Lee in second place on the DNA Molecule.
Mrs. P. D. Nall describes eight months in South America with her husband, a Laughlin-Porter drilling superintendent. She recalls homesickness, unusual daylight hours, and the island Tierra del Fuego where 50 families worked for Perlap Co. and Tennessee Gas and Oil Co. The community built a school for 50 children, taught by U.S. and Spanish instructors, and diets centered on mutton and wine as winter cold persisted.
