West Texas oil output doubles in decade gains
Comptroller George H. Sheppard released basiser figures from oil tax records showing West Texas sixteen counties produced 60,591,625 barrels in 1938, up 15.18 percent from 1936 to 1937 and 50.15 percent over 1927 to 1938. Andrews and eight other counties posted increases, with Andrews rising from 866,030 to 1,149,268 barrels in 1937.

Chain Store Taxes Now Due State
Three years of taxes under the chain store tax law are due and payable. Controller George H. Sheppard said the Dallas Court of Civil Appeals has ended the long litigation. He noted every person selling goods is subject to an occupation tax with a fifty cent filing fee per year for three years and a minimum tax of one dollar per year per store, totaling four dollars and fifty cents initially and one dollar fifty cents annually thereafter. The Black family’s children are reported to be improving after a restful night in Zand.
