A blustery noon alley behind the post office shows youths eyeing a car as two men ride in. The scene ends with a wind driven escape and infants left in the back seat as a crash later injures seven near Andrews.
Six people were injured in a crash near Big Lake when the Frank Clark car collided with a Midland truck driven by Virgil Culberson. Two remained in critical condition, including Mrs. Frank Clark Sr. and Dr. R. R. Ramsey’s head injuries. The incident followed a fishing trip from Andrews.
Two Odessa brothers, Billy P. Howard and Derrel G. Howard, were injured last Wednesday when their car hit a Rumbaugh truck at Broadway and SW 3rd. Derrel suffered a skull fracture. both were hospitalized and later released. Billy faced a $100 fine for running a stop sign and driving while impaired.
Bradley Construction Company of Dallas was awarded a dirt work contract by the Board of Trustees on Tuesday night. The bid of $33,600. Six firms submitted bids. Parker and Parker Corp of Odessa submitted the highest bid of $118,000. Officials said work would begin immediately on the stadium project.
Funeral services for Alma White 75 father of R M White of this city were held Saturday at Geren's in Cameron Texas. Mr White died Thursday after a heart attack at Edward's hospital Cameron. Burial was at Snead's Chapel. Survivors include the wife two daughters and six sons including R 4
Andrews aims to add 400 new residences in 1956 to support incoming industry and town growth. Chamber of Commerce officials report Phillips Petroleum will require about 30 housing units for plant staff, with four houses planned on the plant site and more nearby.
Henry Guillet local attorney announced his candidacy for Andrews county attorney. He has served as city and county attorney in various posts and holds law licenses since 1942. He stresses a resourceful honest and efficient person is needed for four-year term while noting rising duties due to population growth.
Max E. Ramsey, longtime county attorney, announced his candidacy for the 109th Judicial District DA seat covering Andrews Winkler and Crane counties. Incumbent John R. Lee is not seeking re election. Ramsey outlines his background including education at Terrell High School Baylor University and George Washington University Law School and service with the FBI Navy in the South Pacific. He has lived in Andrews about eight years.
Miss Juananna Colbert, a high school drama student, won first place with a dramatic reading of the Creation. Arlene Stewart, Marlene Moore, and Avanda Bruton took second for a pantomime of Sh Boom. Sam mie Fennell claimed third with Two Silhouettes.
School census counts show a 2500 plus student population, per M. O. Woolam the school business manager. An official tally will be released from Austin this summer.
Orr, popular Mustang line coach, accepts a two year head coaching post at Irving High School. The board offered a two year contract with rights to hire four assistants, effective March Isl. Orr will leave his current system and has already spoken with Irving officials.

A kickoff dinner in the Community building raised over 29000 in cash and pledges for a new Methodist church sanctuary. The event launched a $60000 initial goal toward a $125000 building program with speaker L L Martin of Odessa and host J Lee Smith serving as MC.
A mid morning picnic ends in tragedy when a car overturns five miles west of Andrews. Miss Marjorie Helms 15 of Kermit dies on arrival at the hospital. Injured were Thelma Carlisle 15 of Wink Donald Bowers 18 of Andrews with head and leg injuries. Others uninjured were Dwain Nelson 17 of Andrews and Warnella Lynch 16 of Kermit. The group had been returning from Shafter Lake when the car left the road after crossing a cattle guard. Carlisle drove and swerved, the car skidding into a ditch and overturning once. The wreck was investigated by John Suggs.
Maye Price Monk of Odessa was hospitalized after a car she drove overturned six miles northeast of Andrews on the Lamesa highway Tuesday afternoon. She suffered minor cuts and bruises, with the vehicle ending up bottom up in a pasture after crossing a barbed wire fence. The accident occurred at 4:40 p.m.
Russell Austin announces his candidacy for county attorney in Andrews County. He and his wife moved to Andrews in 1946 where he taught mathematics, earned a BA from the University of Texas, and a law degree in January 1951 before opening his Andrews law office. He also served three and a half years in the U.S. Air Forces during World War II.
