A mass meeting in Andrews County calls on citizens to attend next Saturday afternoon to express their presidential choice and push for an uninstructed Texas delegation. The piece critiques withholding tax and federal spending while noting local business upgrades and potential road improvements.

Magnolia Petroleum reports No. 1 Bertha Nolley in Gaines County’s Nolley Wolf Camp area completed on pump after testing in the Wolfcamp. Nearby Gulf Oil Corp No. 1 LL Texas wildcat in Central South Andrews shows slight oil in drill stem test with limited gas-cut mud recovery.
Forty five captains and workers attended the kickoff breakfast for the annual boy scout drive for finances at the primary school cafeteria. Nine captains led teams and received training from M O Woolam on procedures to use in the drive. Fullerton team captain Aud Jones and workers drove in from Frankel City.
A seven pound four and a half ounce son named Rena Payne was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Phillips on Thursday morning. A six pound thirteen ounce daughter named Janice Carol was born February 8 to Mr. and Mrs. Junior Lee Simpson.
Andrews High School Spanish Club sponsors a two performance annual variety show due to about 40 entries. Shows are on consecutive Wednesdays and Thursdays in February 2021 with 5 cent admission. Winners may enter the Lions Club Amateur Show in March. The program features The Fish Scales Bunny Martin Los Viejitos and other clubs with Mickie Sparks Snake Charmer and performers from junior high Spanish and speech classes. Olen Jobe serves as master of ceremonies.
Eva Waits 18 daughter of Emil and wife of Fullerton Magnolia Pipe Line camp and Harlan Huddleston 18 son of T L Huddleston Andrews were treated at Permian General Hospital Saturday night after a two car crash in Goldsmith. Ford 1950 coupe driven by Windsor Lee Elliott 25 Andrews collided with 1948 sedan driven by William Eugene Freemaster El Paso Natural Gas camp Goldsmith. Freemaster unharmed. Elliott arrested fined 50 dollars and 10 days jail for DWI.
Final tally shows 1905 poll taxes issued and 84 exemptions in Andrews County totaling 1989 voters. Exemptions may reach about 100 as those turning 21 before the election qualify. Estimated eligible nonpaying voters due to age or disability total 150.
Odessa community gathers at First Baptist Church for Earnest Noble Curtis 39 known as Jack Curtis formerly of Andrews. He died after a heart attack while aiding a co worker during an oil field accident near Crane. Surviving family includes wife Raye daughter Mary Glenn three brothers O C Curtis Perryton Arvel Alfred and two sisters I N Hart Cisco D E McBeth Mr Pleasant and a stepson Leon Chester.
Pecos Eagles upset Andrews Mustangs 41 40 in Monahans to force a meeting with Monahans for a spot in the district final against Kermit. Monahans earlier beat Seminole 49 28 as Pecos and Monahans advance to face off for the right to challenge Kermit Yellowjackets in a best two of three series.
C V Campbell county chairman announced this week that an estimated 2700 dollars has been raised so far in the March of Dimes drive. The final report is delayed until next week due to illness among workers, marking the highest county total to date.
The United States Army at Fort Lawton Washington refused to turn over Jere Black sought by Andrews County authorities for forgery. Black, dishonorably discharged in 1949 after service at Camp Hood, has eluded capture for years, moving through Pendleton Oregon North Carolina South Carolina and Washington while en route to Korea. Mrs. Lynn Rice was brought home from Phillips Dupree Hospital in Levelland on Monday after injuries from an January 27 auto accident. She suffered a broken left arm and dislocated shoulder treated in traction until February 6 when the cast was applied. She could not make the trip home until Monday.
Junior High teams from Andrews coached by Truman Nix and Keith Hardin enter a 27 team Levelland tournament opening last night and running through today and Saturday. 8th graders meet the winner of O L Slaton versus Fluvanna at 6 PM and the 9th graders meet the winner of O L Slaton versus Morton at 7 PM.
A suit State of Texas v T C Grimes arose over transporting whiskey through dry territory. Grimes was fined 500 dollars and costs in county court. He appealed and the Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed.
Mr. and Mrs. William Harrelson of Wellington Texas open a bakery and pastry shop in the Andrews Hotel space formerly Java Junction. They bring 25 years of bake shop experience and are joined by Mr. and Mrs. J L Loving with their son Tommy. the shop features a revolving oven for pies and a doughnut machine.
