Man Shot In Leg By Bandit At Andrews County
Billy M. Minchey a 37 year old robber from O'Donnell was captured after eight road blocks were set up following a call from Andrews County Sheriff J A Bud Gregory early Saturday. W E Stowe a 35 year old attendant at the Andrews Continental Truck Stop was hit in the left leg by a bullet fired during the escape. Stowe underwent surgery and was reported in fair condition after the operation. Minchey told officers he did not mean to shoot. He wrestled with Midland Police Lt Green on the Andrews highway before being recaptured and jailed on armed robbery charges with bond set at 15000 dollars. He has prior California burglary convictions.

City Awards Banquet Honors Longtime Staff At High School
The first annual City Awards banquet was held Friday night at the high school. City Manager Herb Litz spoke as Mayor Jimmy Wilkins presented the awards totaling 211 years and four months of service. Thieves Nabbed Stealing Mercury From Gas Meters
Three oilfield mercury thieves were caught in the act at a Shell lease eight miles south of El Paso. Bob Chase 39 Ernest Wooford 35 and Donald French 21 all of Odessa were jailed on mercury theft charges. Bond was set at 1500 each. The thefts have troubled lawmen across Andrews Ector Midland and eastern New Mexico counties.
