A Boy Scout Exposition night filled the Andrews Youth Center with scouts displaying tents knot tying bandage wrapping and mock injuries. Cubs showcased transportation age while Explorers presented arrowheads and archaeology displays. Scout executive Barry Minke praised Kenneth Bales George Ellinger and local Andrews volunteers along with the Andrews Jaycees for booth support.
Jack Flukinger 18 of Andrews suffered injuries in a single vehicle crash at 3 45 am Thursday four miles east of Andrews on the Big Spring highway. Patrolman Pat Randall said speed caused the loss of control after the car left the road and skidded 100 feet along the shoulder.
City Manager Herb Sitz resigned at the regular meeting to accept a city manager position in Cleburne, effective March. Sitz had led Andrews for two and a half years since September 1964. The council accepted the resignation, planned to advertise for a new manager, and approved a $50 monthly across the board police raise. They authorized two new police sergeants James Clark announced Doug Gaines and Morris Brown. Election call set April 4 with March 4 filing deadline. Council also reinstated Weedy Latham as city building inspector effective tomorrow after prior removal for violation.
Bingo enters its second week with red cards at fourteen merchants Monday to Wednesday. Numbers appear in ads on Thursday and must cover a card to win the $35 cash pot, with a potential carryover if no winner. Yellow cards from last week should be brought to the News office Monday morning.
Glen H. Smyers of Andrews is appointed to Local Draft Board No. 37 at Odessa representing Andrews county. He replaces Bob Dillard who resigned after fifteen years. Smyers will serve with Charlie Burkett and was appointed by President Johnson. Colonel Morris S. Schwartz announced the action. Local Board 37 covers Ector and Andrews counties.
The location for adult reading classes moved from the old high school to the Junior High cafeteria as the high school began its move this week. Classes run Monday and Thursday nights at 7 and 8 p.m. Volunteers added this week are Mrs. Bertha O'Keefe and Mrs. A. W. Harrison. Mrs. Coleman thanked the Evening Lions for a $50 donation and Jay's Grocery for coffee and refreshments.
Permian General Hospital board discussed the need for new X ray equipment including a diagnostic unit and attachments. The item was tabled for further study as the board reviewed delinquent accounts and heard a monthly financial report. Dr. Gordon and Dr. Raine represented the medical staff.
The First Baptist Church will hold a revival from February 19 to 21 with 10 a.m. and 7 30 p m services daily. Dr A B Lightfoot of Snyder will preach and Harold Davis of Austin will lead songs. Rev Carl Grissom invites the public to attend all revival services.
The employment survey for a local garment factory continues this week under the industrial committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Questionnaires are available in grocery stores, at the Post Office, and at the Chamber of Commerce office to help determine labor needs for Andrews. All interested women are urged to fill and return the forms promptly.
The Andrews high school undergoes a weekend building transfer due to repairs with over 900 people relocating. Students receive maps locating classes across six buildings while parking tightens and humor lightens the chaos as staff plan amid questions on facilities and timing.
