Walden J. Bart Walden of Seminole was hospitalized at Permian General after a welding shop accident. He suffered serious burns when tubing joint slipped and oil and paraffin spilled during work to pump something out. The incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Jan. 31.
A Sunday wreck at NE Ave K and NE Ter race Circle led to charges for Mrs. Thelma Bivens for failure to yield and drunken driving. Her husband Lloyd Bivens was cited for drunk and disorderly conduct at the scene. A second weekend crash occurred Saturday at 5 10 p m on North Main near Highland Trailer Park involving Patricia Meredith and Edna McCowan.
The school board approved hiring an assistant for Athletic Director Jimmie Keeling to lead the junior high athletic program effective March 1. No further announcement was made at this time.
At a Monday night meeting the Permian General Hospital board reviewed the Health Club audit for its first full year of operation after adding the physical therapy wing. The board reported a net profit of 42961.42 with January expenses of 83886 and patient charges of 142768.93 less bad debts and depreciation for a balance of 126847.42.
After the Los Angeles earthquake on Tuesday anxious Andrews families await word on sons daughters and other kin. Names tied to La Habra Santa Paula Orange and Compton show the wide reach of affected relatives as trustees discuss hearings and future revival plans.
Three men filed for three spots on the school board on Tuesday. The filing deadline is March 3 for the race set to run April 3. Ellison Tom Jr a local rancher seeks re election to place four. Cecil Gerber superintendent of Shell Oil here seeks the office held by S P Echols. Henry O Mohr local veterinarian seeks the post held by James Foster. Echols and Foster have not filed for re election.
Mrs. Granville Porter aged 59 died after a lengthy illness. A memorial service at Andrews Presbyterian Church featured Rev. Bob Zap and a string ensemble. Cremation followed. funeral arrangements by Singleton. Survived by husband Granville L Porter and three sons, with relatives in Dallas, Lubbock, Edison, and Cedar Grove. Memorials suggested for a nursing scholarship.
