Scoutmaster R S Dillard plans an all boy led ceremony as community members are urged to attend. Scouts sit in a special section with officials listed and emphasis on reverence. The March of Dimes drive netted 1475.93 county total, aided by Coffee day 78.76 Wallace Theater 173.23 Andrews schools 163.99 Humble Camp Dance 112.00 American Legion Dance 100.00, with thanks to workers and donors.
With basketball season ending, Andrews high prep moves to track as coach Taylor guides 15 players including Jack Neeley Joe Weatherby Max Short Ray Alexander Ray Allen Melvin Cotten Robert Farbes Roddy Tindle L D Moon Richard Bohannan Jack Bruton and James Moxley. The group trains after school, continuing the program’s tradition of strong track performance.
James A. Boyd acting AAA Secretary said that merely listing land does not qualify farmers for deep sand plowing payments. He described qualification criteria for soil breaking depths and noted weekly AA A assistance at Andrews from 8 to 5, with applications required before starting plowing.
On Monday January 7, Phyllis Poor daughter of Mr and Mrs A F Caldwell Odessa wed J Thomas Armstrong son of Mr and Mrs Ora Armstrong Hobbs Rev Raymond Van Zandt Means Memorial Methodist Church read the rites at the Parsonage with Earl Crawford as sole attendant The couple plan to reside in Andrews for now.
Mrs Zula Harrell and her baby from Bynum Texas are visiting Mrs Mae Etter and her family for a stay. The report notes hospitality and family connection during the visit.
Maurine Newsom announces Pauline Crow as partner in ownership and management of the Myrna-Lynn Shoppe Midland. Crow arrives June 8 as store manager with merchandising and styling training and Midland ties through community work and Altrusa Club involvement. The shop opened November 12 in a new Midland building offering dresses suits coats and accessories.
Reverend Eugene Brand of the First Baptist Church entertained Lions Club members with travel sketches from Miami California and Arizona. He contrasted the big cup of coffee with the little strong brew and noted Miami as a hotel centered tourist city, California fog, and Arizona’s scorching 115 to 120 degree heat.
Mr. and Mrs. Derril Woolam and their infant spent the weekend visiting the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Woolam, the couple’s parents.
A merchant reported that an advertisement appeared in a recent news issue. The notice referenced the business and urged readers to visit or contact for inquiries and services.
The Andrews Mustang Quin tet faces Kermit Saturday night in the final conference game. Andrews stands 4 wins 3 losses while Kermit sits at 4-2 with a Seminole date ahead. Mustangs beat Wink 32 14 and edged Seminole 43 40 with Graham Corley Hamilton and Summerwell leading scoring. The Ker mit trip is expected to draw nearly the entire high school contingent to Andrews for the showdown.
Old Dunn Hotel ledgers show 1910 purchases including Black Draught for 25c per bottle plus other items such as lamp wicks milk coal oil soap and coal. Notations record beds paid for by Mr Compton and various small items valued at a dollar or less.
The First Christian Church will hold Sunday services at the American Legion Hall starting February 13. Sunday School begins at 10 15 and worship at 11 00. Brother Johnson of Odessa will bring the message. Everyone is invited to attend.
The T. E. L. Sunday School Class met on February 8 at Mrs. Allen Jackson’s home for a chili and Italian spaghetti dinner. Miss Nella Casement led prayers and devotionals. The group formed a circle for W M A with several officers named, and special prayers were offered for the ill. Attendees included Miss Casement and numerous class members.
Mrs. John Bylund and her son Jimmie from Hayward California visited, she is the former Lometa Taylor. Mae Etter returned from California and said she is now a grandmother. Mrs. George Davis, formerly Miss Mattie Boyd, is the mother of a baby girl born on Christmas Day named Ruth Ann.
Preparations underway for a $16,000,000 Stanolind gasoline plant near Fullerton in Andrews County. A 75 to 80 man pipeline crew will arrive within 10 days as Phillips and other oil firms join the project to avert a Railroad Commission flare refusal and meet housing demand for workers.
Pastor Quillan announced Rev Clark and a Denver City couple will fill the pulpit at Assembly of God Church Sunday February 13. He noted growing attendance and new seats, with several conversions recently reported and a shortage of Sunday School rooms. Everyone is invited.
Enrollment at Texas Technological College reached 5386 unofficially for the spring semester with registration extending to Feb 9. Men outnumber women 4159 to 1227 and 2570 are veterans. arts and sciences lead with 1855, engineering 1578, business 87, agriculture 719, home economics 332, and graduate 85.

Domestic service pays $90 minus $50 if under 90 days, $75 for over 90 days to 6 months, $100 for over 6 months to 1 year, $150 for 1 year or more. foreign service pays $250.
Judge Milton Ramsey announced a tentative county budget hearing for February 16 in Andrews county. Major oil companies and citizens will attend as 332 new producing wells added in 1948 boost taxable values by about 25 percent, from 32.25 million to well over 40 million dollars.

Tuesday work began on a 50 by 50 foot tile building on the west side of the old Lockhart property facing the court house square. Local contractor Boyd Franklin will build it. A dry goods store is planned to occupy the structure upon completion.
Mrs. R L McPherson hosted the Andrews Proper Home Demonstration Club on Thursday February 3. President Mrs. D C Nix led the session with a bed spreads and hooked rug demonstration by Hattie Owens. Refreshments were served to listed members, with the next meeting at Mrs D C Nix’s home.

The Lions Amateur night is scheduled for Friday March 11 at the High School Auditorium. A committee including Coach Frances Tubb M O Woolam and A L Rhodes will coordinate the show. Entries contact the committee. last year’s event drew strong attendance and uncovered local talent.
The American Legion Post sponsors a public shower for the L. C. Downing family on Friday night Feb 11 at the Legion Hut behind the old courthouse. The home and furnishings were destroyed by fire. L. C. Downing is a World War I veteran.
The Red Cross Chapter of Andrews County reorganized Monday night in Mrs. J. A. Ulmer’s home. Mrs. C B E Sealey becomes executive secretary and Mrs. A C Mize takes Home Service Chairmanship, succeeding Mrs. Sealey. Dr. R R Ramsey will chair plans for the annual Red Cross Drive.
Deputy collectors A. J. Berggren and R. L. Albritten will be at Andrews County Courthouse in Andrews Texas on Monday February 14 1949 from 830 AM to 500 PM to render assistance with income tax problems. This will be the only visit possible to your city before March 15 1949.

Perforations at 8 395 to 8 420 feet yielded 13 barrels in six hours, then 110 barrels in nine hours after mud acid wash. Total depth 8 672 feet with continued swabbing and tests across multiple University area wells.
