Dr Bradford Knapp president of Texas Tech will be principal speaker at the Community Banquet at the high school February 18 dedicated to the new grammar school. Committees named and plans advance to accommodate at least 200 guests. Tickets on sale now. attendees urged to buy early for headcount accuracy.
The Andrews Board of Trustees re elected Supt C P Beane and Thomas D Hamilton principal of the high school for another term at their regular Saturday meeting. Under their supervision Andrews public schools have progressed efficiently and are expected to do even more next year.
Political notices indicate actions subjected to the Democratic Primary election set for Saturday July 23 1938. The brief item highlights party party organization and electoral process awaiting voter participation.
Program outlines banquet events with toast master C W Roberts invocation by Rev G H Bryant and Rev O Curtin. Miss Eunice McReynolds delivers A Little Child Shall Lead. The Andrews Ector and Midland Cattleman’s Protective Association held its annual meeting in Midland County Court House with officers re elected. Inspector Aldredge Estes detailed 1937 activity including 25 000 miles traveled 17 000 cattle inspected and 38 stray cattle caught plus two stolen cattle trucks and several unlawful butchers dealt with.
Fifty six men gathered Tuesday night at the Baptist Church to hear a debate on capital punishment. J P Williams and Prof P F Williams led the affirmative with W A Carsey and W C Robertson opposing. Spectators voted 14 for and 19 against, leaving the issue unsettled.
Mr and Mrs Red Thaxton of Morton take over the Wallace Theatre here in place of Mr and Mrs Clive Crume. Crume left for Morton on Thursday and Mrs Crume went to Abilene for several weeks to convalesce with her mother after a nervous breakdown before joining her husband in Morton.

Other wells include Gardener No 18 north of Andrew and Ford No 1 7 in Furman area with Ford No 7 and Munger and Niz No 1 drilling below 3500 3600 ft respectively.

Mrs. Othel Ogden was notified Tuesday of the serious illness of her father, C. E. Walker, of Montgomery, Texas. She and her busy household left immediately but reports later said Mr. Walker died before they arrived. The News extends sympathy to the family.
