Mrs. Mary Lin Stewart died after a carbon monoxide incident in Andrews as husband Ken Pack ing Company workers recall a birthday weekend. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Permian General Hospital around 3 15 a m. Monday. Her mother in law Azulia DeHay traveled from Odessa to help celebrate. The family had planned a cabin birthday trip at Lake Brownwood with the 4 H lambs chores and a Valentine party. The tragedy details were shared by Mr Stewart Tuesday morning.
Mixed drink sales in Andrews for the last quarter of 1976 totaled 37 569 dollars. A ten percent tax on gross receipts produced 3 756 90 dollars for October through December. Andrews County and the City of Andrews each received 563 54 dollars. Counties and cities shared 15 percent each, with the remainder to the state. The Alcoholic Beverage Commission collected the tax. Joe Gonzales 16 heads the Andrews team in the 118 lb open division, with brothers Roger 15 at 124 lb novice, George 14 at 118 lb high school, Jamie 13 at 88 lb junior high, and Rafael Rodriguez 16 in 130 lb, plus Johnny Lopez 15 and Oscar Lujan 16 in the high school division. Other competitors include Robert Menefee 16 at 147 lb, Lenardo Flores 16 and Juan Zamora 16 in high school, Flores 153 lb, Zamora 135 lb, and Floyd Cornejo 13 at 92 lb junior high. Matches run Wednesday through Saturday with finals Monday.
