Old Man Winter blew into town last Thursday bringing 8 inches of snow in places and subzero readings near Humble Camp. Andrews saw 13 to 15 degree temps while north of Florey recorded up to 11 inches. overall damage was minor with two wrecks and one leg-related city incident reported.
In El Paso County, a grand jury was dismissed after a six six deadlock over misappropriating city funds while Mildred Oswalt served as assistant city secretary. The case, moved from Andrews, faces potential resumption in May with Judge Ward possible to hear it then. The prior July 1954 jury also deadlocked.

The edition will cover Andrews and Andrews county and list residents over 16 with detailed data, plus a numerical telephone directory, a buyers guide and a classified business directory with head of family ownership and phone.
An Andrews County grand jury returned five indictments over two days. Defendants Sylvester Dancer and Frank Mayes Jr. face forgery and passing forged checks tied to Hale Well Servicing. John Earle Coleman is charged with burglary and auto radio theft. Grady Frazier faces theft over 50. William H. Claunch is charged with stealing a vehicle from James Stewart Welding. vehicle recovered in Tyler, arrest in Athens.
W. F. Bud Larned, an Andrews Halliburton employee, was crushed between two trailers on Phillips Petroleum’s lease seven miles southeast of Andrews in Wemac field. He suffered severe head lacerations, a mangled ear, a broken arm, and a fractured shoulder as a truck pulled away. He was treated at Permian General Hospital and later Midland Memorial. His steel hat is credited with saving his life.
Lay Presbyterian missionary John Stout from Brazil told Andrews Rotarians at Wednesday lunch that Brazil spans ages from stone age to modern cities. He described vast areas, major cities Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, large cattle herds, fertile soil and rich natural resources, noting exploration gaps and a need only for capital and know how.
Rehearsals for a minstrel show at the high school auditorium on February 20 aim to raise funds to buy youth center furniture. The event is led by Mr and Mrs Bob Montgomery and James Stoicheff with end men Miss Mary Helen Whited and others. tickets have gone on sale.
Officers and directors for the 1956 United Fund were elected at two meetings and organized into a permanent unit. A 27 member board was chosen and committees formed to study charters of similar groups. A nominating committee is preparing a list of officers for 1956 and the constitution and by laws will be voted on at a 7 a m breakfast meeting.
Homer T. Gambo, missionary to India, will speak at 7 30 p m Wednesday evening at the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church. Ted Phillips extends a cordial invitation to the general public to hear the speaker.
The drive for funds for the new Methodist Sanctuary will be launched at a kickoff dinner at 7:30 p m Wednesday at the Community building. The entire adult church membership is asked to attend with Lee Smith as master of ceremonies and L L Martin as guest. Rob Clark will share part of the program. The goal is to raise 60000 in cash and pledges to finance the 125000 Sanctuary. Plans call for the new church to be north of the present fellowship hall.
Lions Club hosts a Monday evening amateur show in the Andrews High School auditorium. One and a half hours of singing dancing reading and pantomimes by local talent with students eligible for top prizes. The Lions Club Chorus features talent from across the area. admission 75 cents for adults 25 cents for students.
Wanda Sellers four years old sustained first second and third degree burns on her back legs arms and hands when her clothing ignited from an open gas heater. She tried to smother the flames in a bathroom then returned to the living room where her sister Edith eighteen aided her before hospital care.
Don Orr line coach of the Andrews Mustangs is seen as a strong candidate for the Irving High School head coach job. Orr visited Irving officials earlier this week as the Class AAAA school seeks a replacement after not renewing Coach Holden's contract.
The R. G. Ferrer Company of Odessa submitted the lowest bid for the Junior High School addition at 169 300 dollars. Seven bids were received. A Jones of Lamesa submitted the high bid at 209 000 dollars, with Robert R Lacey Construction of Midland second low and A P Kasch and Sons of Big Spring third. The board will set the dirt work contract for the new stadium February 13.
The 130 acre T. J. Eastman land in Southeast Andrews along the by-pass route was sold to Adolph Muzny of Midland and Miller Real Estate of Odessa. Plans call for FHA GI and conventional homes on the north and west portions with Cruse Realty handling the sale.
