Cattle Truck Overturns Killing Thirty-Three Cows
John David Poe, driver for Odom Cattle Company, lost control on a curve on Northwest Butane Route around 6 p m Friday. Thirty-three cows were killed and the rest driven to a pasture as Andrews Packing Company workers transported carcasses for immediate butchering. Patrolman Jack Gregg and Capt. R W Tipton investigated. Poe received a citation for failure to control the vehicle.

Murder charges dropped in Owens death at Clack Motel
Jerry Lee Penuel 29 faced murder charges for Oren C. Owens 55 but charges were dropped after a pathologist ruled the death an alcohol overdose. Owens, a resident of Andrews, was found in his motel room near the office after a reported disturbance.

Ellis Hall filed Monday as candidate for commissioner of Precinct 44 in the Democratic primary May 2. He came to Andrews in 1946 after Army service and later settled permanently at 211 S.W. Ave. F. He has been service manager with Noble Olds Mobile for seven years and is a Church of Christ member. He pledged full time duty, honesty and integrity, and urged more county services for tax dollars and Andrews' growth.

Adult Reading Moves Classes In Local Junior High
The adult reading program sponsored by the Association of American University Women Evening Lions and local volunteers has moved to the junior high school library. Andrews Freshmen Teams Win Openers in Tournament
The Black and Gold freshmen squads both won in the first round of an eight team freshman tournament held Friday and Saturday. Gold beat Kermit A 54 51 with Wayne Roberts scoring 28 and Paul Rucker 10. They faced Monahans next as the winner would meet Andrews Black in the final.

The Andrews County Chamber of Commerce board approves a citizen award each month for community betterment and names a three member anonymous committee to pick three nominees. The well near Andrews Texas produced 46 barrels of 29 gravity oil and 133 barrels of water daily after acid treatment. Maxwell Oil Co plans a reentry wildcat No 1 Lowe Skelly 15 miles NW, testing to 6 450 feet in the upper Clear Fork.
