A local scout slips on a rain washed ledge above a rocky gulley in the Davis Mountains. Four companions wait below as he signals danger from mud and loose gravel. The fall triggers a chain of radio messages, an ambulance run, and hospital surgery.
A trucker on a distant highway picked up a distress call from a trapped party in rugged terrain six miles from the final reception point. Gregg was lashed to the stretcher as rescue efforts carried the message forward toward safety.

Tickets for the annual Mustang Sports Banquet featuring Texas A&M coach Emory Bellard are selling well as week one closes. The event is set for March 13 in the high school home area with tickets at $4.50 each, available at Andrews banks and many stores. Club officers Truman Kidd John Duffey and Johnnie Guelfer will sell tickets.
An Andrews man, 58, was shot after Janie Neal Jennings struck him with a loaded purse around 4 p.m. He underwent emergency surgery at Permian General Hospital for liver damage and a damaged kidney. Sullivan remained in the intensive care unit in improved condition as police investigated at the scene near the old Shell station on South Main Street.
