Permian General Hospital reports 43 births in January setting a local record. The year 1957 saw 21 births by January, with a surge last month including nine births between January 28 and 30, signaling potential rapid growth for 1958.
A special meeting heard results from Faris Harris Chapman Marsh on the fiscal year 1957 audit with suggestions to balance tax rolls and ledger, sign and initials for credit memos, maintain perpetual inventories, and ledgered customer deposits. Temperatures in the Andrews area rose toward spring with daytime highs in the low 70s on two occasions and lows near 50 on another day. Over the seven day span minimums fluctuated with several sub freezing readings, including data from January 29 through February 4 showing highs from 46 to 73 and lows from 27 to 50.
The Mustangs beat Monahans 71 to 57 as Roy Max Perrin and Jay Sherrard each scored 19 points. Ronnie Brice added 9 of 12 free throws to reach double figures, while Monahans trailed most of the night and were hurt by second-half defense. The win keeps Kermit and the Mustangs tied for first in District 2-AAA with Brownfield at 5-2 as they prepare for a rematch in Brownfield Friday.
