Goodfellow Movement Seeks Donors and Volunteers For Holiday Aid

Goodfellow group reports $49 received in gifts and names donors led by Mrs Percy Morrison treasurer. A meeting set for Friday decides the Goodfellow room in the courthouse basement will stay open Tuesday and Thursday 1 to 4 PM until Christmas for clothing toys and food collection. Contact Mrs F W Noble Mrs Ed Balkum or Mrs Neil Hayes to donate or pick up items. A survey to locate needy families is under way and further meetings are planned with committees formed. Donor list includes Paige Ramsey and several Ramsey family members plus local banks and Hayes and Bristow households.

Andrews on Monday features Dollar Day with bargains from local merchants under the Chamber of Commerce retail committee. Residents are invited to shop and view Christmas gift selections in area firms.

Santa to Visit Andrews Monday for Christmas Lights

The Andrews Jaycees plan a Monday visit by Santa Claus at the southwest courthouse square to light the town. City county and chamber officials join in the welcome with police escort, a fire truck arrival, and free candy for children. Church choirs, Bryan Baker leading carols, and volunteers will help sing as lights on downtown and courthouse brighten the season. City Electric will connect lights and the public address system for the stage.

Second Baptist Church Dedication Adds Large New Facility

At Second Baptist Church 111 Northwest 7th a formal dedication for an addition is held during the 11 am morning service with open house in the afternoon. The new 140 by 54 foot building features a 950 seat auditorium a pastor’s study nursery and ten classrooms plus 20 extra classrooms in the old building.

Two Men Land Emergency Plane on Eunice Highway

Charles E. Francesco and passenger Karral L. Stevens ran low on fuel while en route from El Paso to Chicago in a Cessna 120. They ditched on the Eunice highway near Andrews New Mexico after attempting an inland highway landing. Local airport official W G Boshears aided the landing and helped secure the plane. Francesco refueled at Andrews and continued their journey. The pair expressed thanks for Andrews hospitality.

Andrews Enjoys Quiet Thanksgiving Holiday in Texas

Residents of Andrews enjoyed a peaceful Thanksgiving weekend as scores were killed on highways nationwide. Local law enforcement reported a near ideal holiday with only a few minor disturbances and no traffic accidents from Thursday through Saturday noon. Fire department volunteers also had a quiet shift as the town remained unmarred.

Officers Election Set For Charter Commission Meeting

The newly elected Charter Commission for the City of Andrews will hold its first meeting at City Hall 7 30 p m Tuesday night. Fifteen members will elect a president vice president and secretary to draw up a city charter for voter presentation.

Magnolia Petroleum reports dual completion in Fussel Man and Ellenburger in Lowe area southeast of Andrews. From Silurian perforations 12,800 to 12,832 feet yielded 120 barrels of 45 degree oil in 24 hours with 630 to 1 gas oil ratio, while Ellenburger flow produced 1587 barrels of 45.5 gravity oil plus 95 percent water after 500 gallons of acid. Delthi-Taylor Oil reports No. 2 Falken as a flowing Devonian discovery in South Andrews with 330 barrels daily through a 5 inch choke from 10,985 to 11,050 feet. pay fractured with 22,800 gallons. Andrews to Host Regional Marching and Twirling Contests

Andrews prepares for 2357 band students from 33 schools to compete Saturday at Mustang Stadium from 1:00 to 5:30 PM. Region 8 marching bands, drum majors Carla Horton and June Parker, and 162 solo twirlers with 28 ensembles vie for first division ratings under judges Norma Kniffen Dozier, Lagantha Wood Gothard, and Naomi Zarbock Schroeter.

UNICEF Drive by the Future Teachers Association

Members of the Future Teachers Association will sponsor a UNICEF drive Monday afternoon from 4 30 to 5 30. They will collect pennies door to door with cooperation urged. The drive supports vaccines penicillin and milk while teaching the value of giving to aid world children and mothers.
