Deep Petroleum Explorations Reported in Andrews County

Two new deep explorations emerged in Northwest and West-Central Andrews County near Ellenburger horizons. Shell Oil seeks to drill No. 1 Line berry to test Ellenburger at 10 600 feet with B B Drilling as contractor. Guy Mabee No 1 Heydrick test logged 614 feet drilling fluid and gas but no oil. Southwest Andrews wildcat below 7 620 feet seeks Ellenburger while Pure Oil Humble No 1 Cowden drills below 9 825 feet near Dollar Hide field as observers anticipate Ellenburger entry.

Ohio oil No 201 University field drill plans outlined

In Fullerton area the Ohio Oil Company No 201 University well 3764 near section 5 block 13 University Survey aims to depth around 9900 feet after a potential dual completion if Devonian and Eisenburger pay zones show commercial production. Superior Oil will drill two stepouts from Fuhrman Masche field in Andrews County.

The No 1-A-9 University prospect lies 660 feet from the northeast lines of section 8, block 9, University Lands survey, about eight and a half miles southwest of Andrews. It plans rotary drilling to about 5 000 feet. The No 1-B-9 University well sits similarly southwest of Andrews and 1 980 feet from the west line and 660 feet from the north line of the northwest quarter of section 8, block 9. Rotary tools will be used.

Work to Begin on Phillips Camp Road

Plans on the county desk for Phillips Camp Road near the county line to Andrews Kermit highway are near completion. Judge Ramsey reports the final stage will start paving next week. The Big Spring highway has about seven miles of caliche laid.

Picnic To Close Summer Band School Friday

A Friday picnic will close the summer band school after six weeks of activities. Students meet in the band room at 5 p m with transportation and food provided. About sixty five students enrolled last week with thirty five in the winners band sixteen in the advanced band four in the drum class and ten in the Tonette section.

Judge Milton Ramsey announced the county has purchased the building and equipment of the G and W Engine Service to use as the county barn. New pumps will be installed and other necessary equipment included. county occupancy starts next Monday.

Andrews County Veterans Office Now Open

The Andrews County Veterans Office invites all veterans to contact the County Service Officer on the second floor of the County Courthouse. The office assists in preparing claims for education benefits pensions compensation and other veteran benefits under current laws and will be open weekdays 8am to 5pm and Saturdays 8am to noon. Terminal Leave Bonds can be converted to cash on or after September 1 1947 and banks or financial institutions empowered to cash postal savings stamps can cash Terminal Leave Bonds.

Winkler County Plans Fence Along Andrews Highway

Winkler County will fence the right of way of the Remit to Andrews County highway with a two four wire fence. The court seeks bids for the work to be completed within 100 days and materials supplied by the county. Landowners oppose the project until ROW access is restored, delaying the road from Winkler County line to Andrews city.

Fewer Counties To Have Crop Insurance Reforms Limit Coverage

Amendments to the Federal Crop Insurance Act cut the 1948 program to 200 counties for wheat 56 for cotton 50 for flax and corn and 35 for tobacco. Coverage tops 75 percent of yield but may be reduced to reflect crop investment. Two crops may join in 1948 and up to three later. additions limited to 20 counties.
