Reverend G H Bryant left early this week to attend the Joint Conference of the Three Division of the Methodist Church in Kansas City where the union of the three churches will become effective.

The Brownfield Board of Trustees elected Mrs Tankersley to teach the second grade in local schools. She has taught the second grade in Brownfield for the past ten years.
Voters will decide May 6 on bonds to build a new court house and on moving the site downtown. Both propositions face little opposition and are expected to pass by large majorities.
Reports from Martin County indicate fencing and grading are proceeding on the Eunice Andrews and Martin County highway sector. The next 30 days are expected to bring the section to full completion with fencing and grading advances.
A group of Humble Oil and Refining Company staff left Midland by bi motor plane to attend the Oil Show in Houston. The travelers listed include W. H. Black division superintendent J P Baldridge Johnny House and Paul Hatley.
The State Highway Department unveiled an electric eye traffic counter by Julian Montgomery. It uses a light beam to tally cars and a camera records hourly counts on film. Operates for a week without attention and is cheaper than manual counts.
AUSTIN Texas April 27 Exploration of one of the largest Indian mounds in Texas is going forward through a collaboration of The University of Texas and the Works Progress Administration. A domiciliary mound near Texarkana is now roughly one fourth explored. Excavations reveal that Indians piled up dirt to facilitate drainage and rebuilt structures after fires. Field notes indicate multiple floor levels with post holes outlining house shapes, suggesting repeated construction patterns.
The University of Texas announces lower summer term fees compared with California and New York rivals. UT charges 15 dollars for six weeks while UCLA and USC bill 35 and 36 dollars per six hour course respectively, with Columbia at 82. Living costs range from 7.50 to 15 dollars monthly for rooms and under 20 dollars monthly for meals at campus facilities. Dorm housing for six weeks runs 45 to 69 dollars. A calf with three hooves on front legs and four on a left hind leg plus extra knee caps was born near Ropesville south of Lupbock. Exhibited by Bob Young with auctioneers L T Bledoe and Buster Lester, the animal has a deformed yet functional right leg and is shown as a freak for potential sale.
LAMESA April 21 Dean James Gordon of Texas Tech spoke to 236 juniors and seniors at Lamesa High School annual banquet in the First Methodist church banquet room. The event featured welcome by Bill Roberts and a response by Rod Smith with musical numbers by juniors honoring 105 graduates and 131 juniors in attendance.
E Boone aged 84 died in Stamford early Tuesday and was buried beside his wife in Colorado City. A native of Washington County he moved to Nolan County in 1909 then to Hermeligh in Scurry County where he ran a business for several years. He left seven children.
Seminole Masons from the local lodge plan to attend a convention in Chihuahua Mexico this week. They will depart Tuesday evening via Maria and meet regional members, traveling by train. The group will be hosted for about five days with entertainment arranged. Attendees from Seminole include L P Smallin Jeff Crane R L Jones Jr Sam M Jones Crowder Wharton and three Humble Camp members from Denver City.
The W M S of the Andrews Baptist Church will meet Tuesday at 2:00 PM for a Royal Service Program. Women from Fibre Baptist Church and the Methodist Missionary Society of Andrews are invited. A social hour follows the program.

Mrs. Rosie Kathryn Veight a pioneer Electra resident age 70 died Saturday morning in an Electra hospital after months of illness. Funeral Sunday 2:30 p.m. at First Methodist with ministers Crutchfield and Ford. Burial East View Cemetery Vernon. Survivors include four daughters and six sons, with relatives in Electra Wichita Falls Pampa Bridgeport Andrews and Tyler.
Texas records 353 motor vehicle deaths in the first three months with 95 pedestrians among victims. Traffic official Harry S. Phillips urges joint responsibility, notes 74 of pedestrians were over 25, only 13 under 18, and warns pedestrians to face traffic and walk on the left to see oncoming vehicles.
Railroad Commission announces statewide six day oil field shutdowns for May and June with May allowance set at 1,393,077 barrels per day after deducing six shutdowns. May 1 and May 14 figures show district variances. Gulf Coast and Panhandle districts rise, while Southwest Texas and East Central Texas fall.
West Texans faced with gas poisoning and respiratory cases receive aid when J B and Mrs Walton of Winkler County ranch long donated an iron lung to a Kermit hospital. It is the twentieth in Texas and the only one between El Paso and San Angel. The device serves Permian Basin residents and is available to medical professionals and their patients at the central hospital location.
A Wednesday rabbit drive attracted many hunters while the local rabbit population was reduced significantly. A noon luncheon at Jim Fowler's hosted by ladies featured steak barbecued pig pies cakes and salads. Bobbie Ray Wimberly 15 son of I A and Mrs Wimberly was taken to Odessa Hospital with pneumonia. condition not known.
The Grade School Operata titled The Wedding of the Flowers will be staged Friday night in the High School auditorium. First and second graders Joy Ann Guyton and Robert Davis perform as Vailey Lily and Jack in the pulpit.
