Amid a 16 cent per hour settlement for 1 050 000 non operating rail workers, 15 unions seek an additional 14 cent raise to reach 30 cents an hour. The wage push covers telegraphers clerks machinists boilermakers electricians and maintenance workers. Negotiations proceed under the railway labor act with mediator involvement and possible fact finding or a final arbitration board decision.
Freight carriers push for a 25 percent increase in freight rates to cover higher operating and labor costs while non operating unions seek an additional 14 cent per hour wage rise. Railroads want to extend the wartime 10 percent passenger fare boost as costs rise by about 2 billion dollars annually. The sum includes 1.355 billion for wartime pay raises and 0.5 billion for higher material costs with a 16 cent per hour settlement for 17 unions adding 619 million to operating costs.

Reynolds notes ongoing production plans.
The annual banquet in the School Cafeteria recognized lettermen from A and B teams. Coach Tubbs awarded black and gold jackets to Jack Young Cecil Hudgeons Ferrel Nixon, All District selections, and golden footballs to the trio. B team sweaters promised for eligible members.

Roberts returned from Amarillo where the Spring Convention of West Texas County Judges and Commissioners focused on the Three-year Plan for Farm-to-market roads and Juvenile delinquency. Speakers urged rapid road construction while calling for prevention programs and teen recreation facilities including softball and tennis courts and swimming pools.
Sgt. Truman Loggins brother of Mrs. Pete Hughey returns to Andrews on furlough after years with U S Army in Germany and Europe. He served in an demolition squad during Normandy operations and later in a Medical Corps hospital in Germany. He describes food shortages and claims Poland suffered the heaviest impact with reports of black market human flesh.
Mrs R F Davidson and her daughter Norma Jean Davidson are visiting Dallas this week, stopping at local spots and greeting friends amid a brief Southern sojourn.
Haynes and Strange of Lubbock are preparing new plans after drawing revisions. The move aims to refine site layouts and finalize approvals for the ongoing project.
Center of Andrews County reports Shell No 1 Nelson wildcat in the Ellenburger zone near the New Mexico line yielding 83 to 80 barrels per hour after acid treatment. Multiple companies including Atlantic Refining, Phillips, Stanolind, and Skelly plan or started tests in surrounding sections, with new wells from University and Fullerton fields increasing lease and royalty activity.
