The Andrews High School Band directed by Everett Maxwell captured the Interscholastic League sweepstakes title for the seventh year in a row. In Odessa the group earned First Division ratings in concert sightreading and marching while band members earned 48 First Division medals in solo ensemble and student conducting. Individual honors went to Glenda Morrison and Jimmy Ulmer as Superior conductors and to numerous soloists and ensemblists across woodwind brass and percussion sections.

Andrews city records show first quarter permits total $1,311,825, up $684,835 from last year. Home permits reached $650,100 with a large share issued in late April. commercial permits totaled $351,825 and a $169,300 public permit funded a junior high addition. Major home work went to Harvey Construction for twenty new homes in Underwood Park. Churches supplied several commercial permits including $100,000 for a Methodist auditorium and $35,600 for Presbyterian facilities.

Oil field worker saved by quick action at Stanolind site
A 24 year old oil field worker, Nowell, survived after hydrogen sulfide exposure at Stanolind Air Lease near Andrews. Pumper Bob Dillard Jr and helper J C Tucker spotted him, Dillard performed artificial respiration and shock treatment, assisted by Clyde Broom and Dixie Mashburger until ambulance arrival.

A four team league from South Fullerton Monterrey Phillips and Stanolind Production was organized at a Monday night meeting in the chamber office. Clyde Weatherford will manage Monterrey Sheriff Ivy Phillips and Bill Rogers Stanolind production manage. South Fullerton manager to be named. First two part season opens Tuesday May 8 with doubleheaders on Tuesdays and Fridays. A general meeting with Commissioner Harry Cowan is set for May 4 at the South Andrews softball field.

Two hundred and three of a possible 350 pre school children registered Tuesday at the Primary school. As each child signed in a symbol was pinned to the lapel designating a group. One Injured and One Fined in City Collision
Jose Maria Carnejo, 21, received emergency treatment at Permian General Hospital after an auto collision in the 500 block of Southeast Ist. Carnejo was a passenger in a car driven by Gonzales Arellano, which struck a parked vehicle. Arellano was fined $150 and costs for driving while intoxicated.

Sewer Extension Report Given To City Council
The council hears a plan to extend the sewer line west across the Seminole highway to serve development along the north city boundary. County Engineer A W Harrison says one national line suffices for most outside subdivisions and two new lagoons are proposed to handle a town of 15 000.
