Oil well No 136 A University Ellenburger prospect northeast of the Emma field in South Andrews County flowed 1382 barrels of oil in one hour after a drillstem test from 12 291 to 12 346 feet with a 2360 foot water blanket. Gasoil ratio 463 to 1. No water surfaced. Location 660 feet from S and 1980 feet from E lines of section 36, block 110, University Lands survey, 11 miles SW of Andrews. Vega, Sinclair, Gardner, Fasken, Belbasin and Magnolia plans noted for nearby wildcats and tests.
Heavy rains swept across Andrews County Sunday night bringing 1 to 5 inches in various areas and triggering a tornado alert for the Midland Wink corridor. Firefighters and sheriff patrols aided flooded roads while residents sought shelter in public buildings as rainfall totals varied from 0.65 to 5 inches across communities like Humble camp Florey and Fullerton.
A serious shortage in city funds was found in a routine audit of Andrews finances. An investigation is underway by Odessa firm Criswell and Munn. Mayor Virgil Lasater said the Council would not comment until the inquiry ends.

Ninety five businessmen joined 130 Humble employees for the largest industrial feed yet sponsored by the local chamber of commerce. Jim Underwood thanked the Humble staff and townspeople while N N Jones gave a company update on payroll, wells, private roads and daily oil output.
A drawing to assign fifty two 20 foot advertising spaces on new fences at the county softball park will be held at Art's Cafe at 9 30 a m on April 26. Roy Sparks announces as Lions committee chair. Space costs 125 per foot or 25 00 and lasts two years. Proceeds fund Lions sponsored softball league. Requests may be made by Roy Sparks Charlie Carruth Albert Sybesma or Frank Elkins.
A 5 pound 11 ounce son named Ronnie Paul was born on April 13 to Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Reid.
W. C. Toby Preston announced his bid for commissioner of precinct two. Preston, proprietor of the Speedway Service Station, has resided in the county since 1951 and plans to meet every voter to share his beliefs on precinct and county government.
Rain dominated talk in Andrews after a heavy Sunday night downpour. A new Presbyterian church held its first service and faced more rain that night. A bearded patron muttered jokes about dye allergies while a Texas visitor remarked on the town’s differences. A rancher counted 122 dead prairie dogs on his flood-weary land. Coach Max Goldsmith teased about chances at Pecos meet. Tom Tipps toured Mustang football materials in town Tuesday.
Disaster Chairman James Reed revisited community tornado plans after Sundays alert. The sheriff notifies by Midland radio, the night dispatcher triggers the alarm, and City Hall sirens emit a long and short pattern for sighted tornadoes. Fire crews and volunteers sweep residential areas to warn families.
Members of the beard growing Beards Booster Club will meet at 8 p m in the county rodeo arena to finalize plans and rules for the club. O D Huckabee urges all men with beards to attend and discuss booster trips for the upcoming high school rodeo April 29 30 and May 1.
The Andrews Quarterback Club will host a banquet for basketball and track team members on May 15 in the high school cafeteria. Guest speaker will be Bert Huffman, former Texas Tech line coach and ex athletic director at the University of New Mexico, now Albuquerque chamber of commerce manager.
