October 13 1864 Cedar Creek engagement tale of Conner brigade
In a Confederate counterattack near Belle Grove the Conner brigade led a rush over a wall to drive back Union forces. Colonel Rutherford bled and Captain Watts killed the Yankee who shot him. Crumley aided Conner, Crumley’s shell wound and a leg injury to Conner shaped a chaotic but bold assault.
