Thunderstorm Delivers Destructive Wind and Lightning Near Greenville

A June 1 storm with wind and hail damaged crops near Greenville, especially around Gantt between here and Piedmont, blowing down cotton and corn. Lightning struck near the Davenport residence on the Augusta road, injuring Mr Davenport’s young daughter slightly and shocking Mrs Davenport. the girl remained conscious and called neighbors for help. The State reports the event with emphasis on the electrical display and local damage.

On Friday the 20th in Piedmont the Jares schoolroom and Union Hall hosted a lively program for parents and friends. Col. Jns Orr lauded education, urged broader reading and industrial training, and praised Piedmont teachers while noting South Carolina’s growing need for educated workers.

Program of the Woman's Missionary Union District No 2

The program meets at Eureka Church next Saturday June 1st at 106 oclock A.M. with devotional exercises, minutes of last meeting, enrollment of delegates, and election of officers for the ensuing year. Topics include Primary motives to Mission Work and Diversities of Operations. Opened by Rosa Bowen and Allie Major, then Eulalia Wilson and P G Acker present reports from societies.
