First Bona Fide Dive From Buds Bridge By 19 Year Old

Albert Baker of St Louis aged 19 living with his uncle J on Ginder made the first bona fide dive ever taken from the Buds bridge into the Mississippi River. The 125 foot leap was performed head first and Baker surfaced after swimming about 240 feet awaiting a tug, unhurt. The report notes his training under Prof Bill Clark and his daily practice at the Natatorium.

Steam bicycle inventor dies during Cambridge track trial

About 11 this morning 8 H Roper, inventor of a steam bicycle, died of heart disease while testing his machine on the Charles River Park track in Cambridge. He had just completed a mile in 2 minutes 1 1-5 seconds and was on the last lap against Nat Butler when he suddenly collapsed. The machine toppled, but attempts to shut off power failed. a physician ruled death due to heart failure, with no fatal injuries to Roper. He was 73, living at 299 Eustis Street, Roxbury, and had dedicated years of work to perfecting the device.
