Battle of Fredericksburg remembered in Confederate memoirs
A Confederate battery description recalls the December 1862 Fredericksburg fight. The author, part of Gordon’s Battery, portrays civilian refugees, harrowing cold, and the battle’s progression from snow to engagement, noting Longstreet and Jackson’s roles, Union siege guns, and the 14th and 17th North Carolina regiments’ costly advance. The piece concludes with Jackson’s praise and a casualty tally.
