Cox Manufacturing Company Builds Southern Textile Power
Occupying a unique position among Anderson County mills, the Cox Manufacturing Company on the Blue Ridge Railroad began in 1500 through Judge W. P. Cox and started with 3790 spindles in 100. The $ capital remains largely local with no Eastern funding, and the mill now runs 7530 spindles with long staple cotton. Ready markets include Musselsetts Rhode Island New York and Pennsylvania. The plant features a two story brick, ample space for 1000 additional spindles, modern carding and spinning machinery, steam power, and a 750 gallon per minute Underwriters pump. Thirty cottages provide housing for workers, and the village supports graded schooling nearby. Annual stockholders meeting reported strong results and ongoing expansion signals.
