Chicago Terminal official blasts state port plans

C H Critikos, operating VP of Trans-Oceanic Terminal Corp, at ground breaking for a new port facility near the Indiana border calls Burns Ditch Port plan foolish. He says the terminal will serve Illinois and Indiana ships by 1964, with a 2900 foot dock for about 150 ships per season and 60 at once, and 2000 vessels in ten years. The Chicago Port Authority handled 600 ships in 1962. The terminal sits on land leased from Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co and is on the south bank of the Calumet River terminus.
