Madison County Tax Board Opens Three Day Budget Review
The Madison County Tax Adjustment Board begins a three day session at the courthouse to study budgets and tax rates for 1959. The seven member body may cut budgets but cannot raise rates approved by the county’s appropriating units. Judge Carl T. Smith names public members after consulting with the Superior Court judges. Three public members were named yesterday. the fourth is due today. The board must find areas to reduce property tax rates for city townships schools and other agencies. For Anderson city taxpayers the overall rate for next year would rise by more than 1.66 dollars per 100 dollars of assessed property.
