Five area residents died in traffic mishaps during the Labor Day weekend near Elwood and Tipton County Indiana. Victims include Dale Dalton Landrum 47 Harold Logan 41 and Logan's son Mike 11 with earlier deaths of Edward Aldridge 85 and Fanny Baker 71.

The Labor Day period broke highway and boating death records with 405 highway fatalities, 21 boating deaths, 39 drownings and 72 miscellaneous incidents, totaling 537.
