Court ruling echoes concern in mental health debate

LOGANSPORT Ind UPI Donald Freehofer president of the Indiana Association for Mental Health criticized a Monday decision of the Indiana Supreme Court as unfortunate and an invitation to sadism. The court upheld a Jennings Circuit Court ruling reinstating Merle C Jackson as principal at Muscatiack School after he was fired for spanking a 14 year old inmate with his belt. Freehofer warned the ruling blurs lines between state warded sick children and home protected well children and could curb mental health administrators authority over staff under them. Ginsberg state mental health commissioner said the court decision would stand and that they would comply.
