Two Men Captured in Chicago Bank Slayings Case

Federal and local officers trapped Henry M. Gargano and Chifton C. Daniels, exconvicts, at a Fish Lake cabin near La Porte after a four day nationwide manhunt for the killings of two policemen. Gargano’s sister Annette Gargano Leonardo, 26, and two women were also detained.

UAW Threatens GM Walkout Over Overtime Use

AP report from Detroit says UAW Vice President Leonard Woodcock warned GM could face a company wide strike if overtime is scheduled to push production. He noted 21 of 23 GM plants ran overtime while talks continue and the union contemplates actions to protect jobs.

Absentee Vote Requests Reach 542 for City Elections

Absentee voter applications total 542 for the November 7 city elections in Anderson Alexandria and Elwood. Sixty six ballots have been cast in the courthouse with 67 in Anderson 15 in Elwood and four in Alexandria. Ballots will be delivered to precincts on election day and tallied with votes on machines.

J E Ed Flanagan spoke before about 75 people at Mayor Allis’s home outlining a five point program including no commitments to any group and maintaining city ownership of utilities. IU Students Split by Rusk War Speech Rooftop Show

A near four thousand students at Indiana University jeered and cheered Secretary of State Dean Rusk during a campus speech on Vietnam involvement. Picketing and a protest parade formed outside the auditorium as faculty members joined the demonstrators, while chants and boos interrupted the address.

Counties Lead In Reducing Highway Deaths Good

Madison County is among 25 in the state with potential to lower traffic deaths according to a United Press International report. Last year Madison recorded 33 fatalities and by late 1967 had 15, with forecasts hinging on motorist responses to winter hazards and poor driving conditions.
