Former U S Interior secretary Stewart Udall will speak at a two day Citizens Energy Conference in Indianapolis beginning Saturday at the Marott Hotel. He will headline at 9 30 a m Saturday and Indiana Secretary of State Larry Conrad will speak at 9 30 a m Sunday. Officials will discuss strategies to hold down rates, adopt resolutions and elect officers after Conrad's speech. Rezone Request Denied by Anderson Plan Commission
The Anderson City Plan Commission rejected a rezoning request at 1424 Eighth St from Residential-2 to Business-5 by a 7 to 0 vote. Attorney Dan Davison argued for John R. Ashcraft's plan to house the Anderson Board of Realtors in the building, while opponents led by Jim Melson argued it would harm residential character and property values. The commission did approve a separate rezoning at 25 W. 38th St from Residential-2 to Business-1 for a gift shop, and postponed a decision on 130 W. Eighth St from Residential-4 to Business pending a June meeting. The panel also forwarded two special-exception requests for gasoline stations at 3724 Columbus Ave and 2509 E. 10th St.
