Isaac Curtis case shows recruiting complexities and eligibility clash
The Isaac Fisher Curtis saga, a top recruit from Santa Ana, sparked a nationwide clash between Cal and the NCAA over the 1.6 scholastic rule. Curtis, a 21 year old football and track standout, was admitted with low academics, faced eligibility battles, and transferred to San Diego State amid lawsuits and university turnover. The piece notes mixed blame, reforms like a dedicated eligibility secretary at Cal, and ongoing debate over equal opportunity versus strict rules in college recruiting.
