Bombings in Europe Prompt U.S. War Policy Probe
Authorities in France and West Germany investigated whether explosions at the Paris U.S. consulate and American Legion HQ, and the Heidelberg Army HQ, were part of a coordinated campaign against U.S. Vietnam policy. Three American soldiers died in Heidelberg, with 37 injured overall. The Red Army Faction or Baader Meinhof group was suspected, as Chancellor Brandt ordered a high level inquiry upon return from Austria.
