Good Samaritan Doctor to Close Aurora Free Clinic
Aging Dr. Eugene Balthazar, founder of the Aurora Free Medical Dispensary, says he will close the clinic on June 1 after operating since 1972 with his own funds and community donations. He notes 125,000 patient visits, no infant or adolescent deaths, and that a licensed physician would cost about 40,000 to hire. He refuses state funding and cites rising costs, aging volunteers, and a 2,000 dollar monthly payroll.
