House approves budget in tight vote on tax cut plan
Washington(AP) A broad budget with a 194 billion dollar tax cut for next year narrowly passed the House 201 to 198 after the Senate accepted it. The resolution outlines 449.8 billion in spending and 47.9 billion in revenues for fiscal 1979, with a 50.9 billion dollar deficit. President Carter shifted from a larger tax cut amid inflation concerns. The measure also sets defense at 115.7 billion and leaves tax split between income and payroll taxes undecided. A separate vote failed to raise the national debt limit to cover deficits. A second notice of the day reports former Indianapolis resident John W. Dick Sr. dead at 65 after a long illness, with funeral plans and survivors listed.
