Local Woman Killed In Front Of Home In Madison County
An Anderson woman was killed instantly when she stepped from a curb in front of a car near her home on Raible Avenue. Kenneth D. Franklin, 21, of Moss Island Road, said he was traveling northbound in the 2800 block when the pedestrian appeared in front of his vehicle. The victim, Mrs. Alta Mitchell, 2901 Rate Avenue Pinaree Village Apt. F8, died from a basal skull fracture and a right side head fracture. Police noted the victim stepped from the curb toward an apartment building as Franklin claimed no warning was possible. Skid marks indicated 2 to 30 mph, and Franklin said he attempted to avoid her but could not. The coroner confirmed the fatality as Madison County’s traffic death for the year. Police also reported a separate incident involving four men charged with keeping a gaming house after a card game was learned at Johnson's Lunch, 1020 W. 16th St, with individuals named Willis, Wynn, McCory, and Lightfoot.
