Fort Wayne flood damages rise past 4.5 million
Floods in Fort Wayne forced about 500 people from 130 homes and 24 trailers as the Maumee River neared nine feet above flood stage. Officials estimated 2 million for basements and foundations, 1 million for factories and schools, 700 thousand for businesses, and 520 thousand for flooded homes. The city declared a state of emergency for a second day while the U.S. Army Corps aided pumping and sandbagging efforts.
