Medical aid for the chairmanship fight over school funds
The House stalled on a medical education bill tied to New Frontier goals. A 7 to 7 vote blocked a rules change allowing backdoor spending review while another 7 to 7 vote deferred action on rescission of unspent appropriations. Commerce Chairman Oren Harris defended funding needs citing doctor and dentist shortages as justification for matching funds and student loans. Representative Ray Madden’s illness left the issue open for later consideration.
