Brilliant thief spared jail in art heist case
Dayton judge suspended a two to five year sentence and placed Ronald Valeria on probation, citing an IQ of 140 and a psychiatric report. Valeria, 22, pleaded guilty to stealing art worth about 14 500 from Dayton and Cincinnati museums. Police confiscated over 60 pieces valued around 100 000 from his home including a Manet etching. Valeria allegedly carried it out the front door. Valeria had worked as a student monitor at Williamstown College Museum of Art where director Franklin W. Robinson said he was emotionally upset.
