France reports drug problem minor despite large seizures

Paris police say narcotics seizures last year were huge but illegal drug use remains minor in France with most traffic passing through en route to the United States. The Liaisons study notes few hard drug addicts, marijuana gaining some urban visibility, LSD limited impact, and heroin and hashish still followed by some adults. Authorities arrested about 50 people for heroin use or distribution, with potential wholesale value estimated around $62 million.
